Our Story

Inglewood Pacific Chapter Founders

Vera Ricketts (standing),

Thelma Rice and Irene Rush

(L to R), circa 1979

The year was 1978 when Vera Ricketts and Thelma Rice discussed their interest in organizing a chapter of The Links, Incorporated in the Inglewood, California area.  A strategy session was held at the home of Thelma Rice with Irene Rush and Vera Ricketts in attendance.  During the following months, several women of diverse talents were invited to attend a brunch at the Wilshire Hyatt hotel to discuss the organization's goals and objectives.  Leatrice Pride of the San Fernando Valley Chapter of the Links, Inc. was the guest speaker.  The fourteen women worked diligently for one year to meet the needs of the community through civic, social, and cultural endeavors.

On May 6, 1979, Marion S. Sutherland, Western Area Director, chartered the Inglewood Pacific Chapter (IPC) at the Los Angeles Hyatt Hotel.  Officers were installed and Link Thelma Rice became the Chapter's first President.   Today, IPC is over 42 members strong, has an active Alumna network, and honors our Founders and Charter members, annually.  Click here for a historical perspective of IPC's illustrious membership and leadership since its inception.

During the past 40 years, IPC members have generously given of their expertise, financial resources and service to implement National and Area initiatives.  IPC Programs have supported numerous community service projects and made substantial contributions to local and national charitable organizations.  Inglewood Pacific Chapter has provided over $500,000 in resources to the City of Inglewood and the great Los Angeles community during our 40 year tenure.  IPC has been recognized by The Links, Incorporated, nationally, for its Signature ARTS Program-" Through the Lens of a Child " ; and for its National Trends & Services Program, "Seniors are you Ready?"  Locally, IPC has also been honored on numerous occasions by the community we serve, most recently by the National Association of Women Business Owners - Los Angeles  and the Inglewood/LAX Airport Area Chamber of Commerce as one of the Champions of Change Women Business Leaders of Inglewood  for our unwavering service and innovative programs.
